This web site is my online headquarters for a research project I
am doing on the Miami Police Department's history from
1925 to 1945. Specifically, I am researching the life and
career of a particular officer from that period named Sergeant
Leaston Gerald Crews, known to his fellow officers as "Red".
Crews was my paternal grandmother's step-father. My intent is to use
the information I gather through my research to write a book about
him, the Miami Police Department during the period he served, and
the City of Miami of the time. My reason for creating this web
site is to seek help from anyone who might have any information to
add about Sergeant Crews or the Miami Police Department of that
period. I have also included some photos and information about
Crews, and the Miami Police Department of the period,
for anyone who is interested in the subject.
UPDATE: DECEMBER 18, 2006: I have made some
improvements to the site, including a reorganization of the Old
Miami PD page that includes a lot more old Miami Police photos from
the time period of 1925-1945. I have also included on that
page more information on the Miami Police Department's pistol team,
the Miami Police Motor Division, and a listing of all of the Miami
Police Department officers who died while on duty during the
1925-1945 time period.
This research project is a one man, privately funded and
conducted effort, that is not affiliated/associated in any capacity
with the Miami Police Department, or any of the universities or
other institutions/agencies mentioned on this site. This site
is privately operated by Ian H. Kennedy.

All photos on this site, unless otherwise indicated,
came from the personal scrapbook of Leaston G. Crews.
